Smog check in Castro Valley
Pull in, hand over your keys, and you’re usually back on Castro Valley Boulevard in 10 to 25 minutes. Smog World is a state-licensed Smog Check station, and your results go straight to the DMV.

Test Only means an honest test
Smog World is licensed by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair as a Test Only station (license #232568). We test your car; we don’t sell smog repairs. That means nobody here has a reason to fail your car.
Fast, by reputation
Reviewers keep timing us: under ten minutes for one regular, 15 to 20 minutes for another, about 25 minutes for a first-timer. Most people just wait on the bench out front.
If your car doesn’t pass
You get the test report showing what failed. Because we’re Test Only, you take it to a repair shop of your choice, then come back for the retest. Call us if you’re not sure what the report means.

Smog check: common questions
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours: Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, Saturday 8 AM to 2 PM.
How long does a smog check take?
Usually 10 to 25 minutes, depending on the car and who’s ahead of you.
What should I bring?
Your car and your DMV renewal notice if you have one. The results are sent to the DMV electronically, so there’s no paperwork to mail.
How long is a smog certificate good for?
A California smog certification is valid for 90 days, so you can get it done before you renew or sell.
I just replaced my battery. Can I get a smog check?
Give it a few days of normal driving first. Disconnecting the battery or clearing a check-engine light resets the car’s self-checks, and the car may not be ready to test until they finish.
