What is a STAR station?

STAR is a certification from the California Bureau of Automotive Repair for Smog Check stations that meet its performance standards. Only STAR stations can inspect certain vehicles, including the ones the DMV directs to them.

Why your notice says “STAR”

Some renewal notices say the car must be tested at a STAR station. It doesn’t mean anything is wrong with your car. It just means the test has to happen at a station like ours.
